February 23 to March 5 - CRS mission to Brazil
The Brazil Information Center organized and sponsored a mission of two analysts from the CRS – Congressional Research Service - to Brazil from February 23 to March 5. The purpose of this mission was to update CRS' knowledge of the Brazilian iron and steel industry.

The analysts – Glennon Harrison and Stephen Cooney - visited São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Distrito Federal and Minas Gerais -- where they were able to see how some of Brazil's largest steel and iron ore mining companies operate, and discuss trade and investment issues.

The proposed agenda included meetings at the Federation of Industries of the State of Sao Paulo (FIESP), Brazilian Steel Institute (IBS), Brazilian Aluminum Association (ABAL), Brazilian Mining Institute (IBRAM), Brazilian Center for International Relations (CEBRI), Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES), Gerdau Açominas, Usiminas, Metaldata, Vallourec & Mannesmann and Vale. The delegation also visited the U.S. Consulate in Rio e Janeiro and the Ministry of External Relations and the Ministry of Mining & Energy in Brasilia.

Their visit produced a report which may contribute to closer economic ties in this industry between the US and Brazil.
